Project Overview

This project involves the renovation and extension of a 100-year-old stadium, located within a campus surrounded by other heritage structures. The goal is to introduce new activities while preserving the atmosphere of these historical landmarks.

The original structure of the old stadium served as inspiration for the new roof design. By transforming the triangular truss and mimicking its sloping roof, the new design establishes a strong connection to the existing stadium.

Campus is a container of activities, and every undefined landscape has the potential to stimulate various behaviors. To bring vitality to the campus, landscape urbanism is a good strategy. The design incorporates large slopes, aiming to integrate the surrounding area with both the interior and exterior of the new stadium. The upward and downward slopes encourage movement, inviting people to participate in activities inside or to relax and wander outside.

Campus -- Container of Activities

Southeast University has a campus of heritages, buildings, installations even landscapes have histories from couple of decades to hundreds of years.

On the other hand, campus is a container of actitivies, every undefined landscape have the potential to stimulate people to use them unexpectedly, the juxtaposition of these two elements forms a fantasy image of the campus.

Slopes - Landscape Urbanism

Landscape urbanism as a concept bring potential of activities to everywhere, which meets the ideation of the campus as a container of activities.

The Majority of project is covered by a upwards slopes with plants, while a downward slope, bring access to the stadium. Slopes Leading people to various level naturally, blur the limits of function and level and integrate the project and surrounding area together.

Slopes - Structure of Architecture Heritage

Sloped roofs is the symbol of the old stadium. To give enough respect the heritage, the roof of the extension project reuse the same roof language, but in a different way of structure.

The project have four different pieces, old stadium, glass corridor, new stadium and servent spaces. Each responds to the context and stimulate behaviors differently. Different structure systems are attached to them, help developing the space atomasphere and connection among them.

Landscape Amplifier

Landscape as resources is mainly located at the north of the site, while south part is the main entrance of the building. A trapezoid volumn brings view of the northen part to the south, while leaving a continuous facade facing the main road.

The Slopes

Form of the new roof is geometrily related to the old one, and the size shows respect.

Detail design aims at further development of the floating feeling of the new roof, and connection to other part of the project present its independence.
